It is about to happen again: The times they are a-changin’ – Yes, times are changing right now, with great speed. What was unimaginable two years ago, is already the social reality of today. But how to steady oneself and what could be considered as a possible route through? How does identity constitute itself and which new spaces can human desire still open up in these days?
In their mostly sculptural and photographic settings Jana Müller and Alexej Meschtschanow follow the disruptions within the tectonics of community norms. Often taking cases of single persons or cultural narratives, they detect the inscriptions of society into the subject, so to say the collective modification of identity. For instance, at Kunstraum Potsdam they present the work “Grand Tour – Europa verlassen”, 2015 – 2018, a road trip crossing through the USA. This artistic survey of our Big Brother was created with the co-authorship of the writer Felicitas Hoppe. It shows in various media the emerging cultural shift within the heart of a continent, which is still closely linked to us. This central installation is accompanied by several freshly created works, so that »Demand on Release« gives a deep look inside the actual practice of the artists without being something like a so called Retrospective.
