The exhibition PRINTAGE comprises of artwork originated by different printing techniques. PRINTAGE shows how press-techniques, new technology of printing devices and traditional print processes can lead to a variety of material and image structures. Often the interest of young contemporary artists to experiment with printing techniques derives from the longing to transform virtual imagery into physical materiality.
It is quite interesting how reproduction as the traditional intention and purpose of printing gets mostly levered out in the art work. PRINTAGE mainly shows unique work that develops an own language in exploring printing as a medium. Serial (re-)production is avoided and judged from an aesthetic point of view the printed work often appears quite close to the painterly gesture.
